Saab has its eyes set on a new compact hatch to take on the likes of the BMW 1-Series and Audi A3. Swedish car magazine Teknikens Varld took on the assignment of “visualising” the 9-1 in the form of an artist's impression that borrows design cues from the Aero-X concept. Last year, Saab’s Managing Director Jan-Ake Jonsson gave an interview to the Swedish newspaper TT, where he not only confirmed the company’s plans for the 9-1 but he also revealed that it will be based on the same platform as the next-generation Opel Astra. That means the 9-1 will also use Astra’s engine range including the new 180Hp 1.6 Turbo and OPC’s 240Hp 2.0 Turbo. Via: Teknikensvarld
