Research reveals that five biggest polluters in UK produce more CO2 than all motorists combined

British newspaper Guardian had a very interesting article on CO2 pollution that reveals that just five companies in Britain produce more carbon dioxide together than all the motorists on UK roads combined.

Now, listen to this, in 2005, the top five companies (EON UK, RWE Npower, Drax, Corus, and EDF) produced more than 100m tonnes of carbon dioxide while on average, the 26m private cars on the UK roads produce 91m tonnes each year!

EON UK itself, an electricity generator that owns Powergen, was Britain's biggest corporate emitter of greenhouse gases as it produced 26,4m tonnes of CO2 which is slightly more than Croatia did…

According to the figures that EU released yesterday, British companies produced together more than 242m tonnes of carbon dioxide while they had permits to emit only 209m tonnes. Germany’s permit allowed there companies to produce 495m tonnes of carbon dioxide, but they emitted only 474m. France produced 131m tonnes, but had permits for 151m.
